Weekly UPDATE 6-9-05
Dear family, friends, and fellow walkers, Another week down!! Jeff called last Sunday and needed a break at home. The week before had been a tough one. His stomach virus turned into a four day deal, but he continued to walk anyway. Overall I think he lost about 12 pounds. So on Wednesday I drove to Raton, New Mexico and picked him up. As I driving over a small hill I came upon a sight that I knew Jeff had passed, and I knew that it must have given him great joy. In the horizon was the beautiful sight of the snow-covered mountains of Colorado. I’m hoping Justin will give you a picture of them that Jeff took as he saw them.
The week as always brought pleasure in the people that he met. One story for you. Jeff was walking in a very small town when he looked across the road and saw two young boys, probably 7 or 8, in their cowboy hats and boots carrying a foil wrapped paper plate and a cup with a baggy over it. They motioned for him to come across and shared with him how their mother thought he would be hungry so she sent him some biscuits, gravy and juice. Jeff thanked them very much and gave them a Walking to Denver business card. Their mother must have gone to the web page immediately because it wasn’t long before Dad and now four boys came out and wanted to talk. This man and his boys spent some time with Jeff and he shared the story of THE JOURNEY with him. This was a wonderful time for Jeff, for right now the walk is a very lonely walk. There is not much in West Texas and New Mexico. Thank you to this wonderful family for taking care of Jeff’s needs at that time. Anyway, back to picking Jeff up. Thursday we returned to Dallas 9.5 hours later. He was very glad to be home. We would be traveling to Oklahoma for a family reunion on my side of the family on Friday morning. This is an annual thing that we have been doing for 45 years now. Every year we have an auction or something to raise a little money to help with the family cemetery. My aunt (who by the way will be writing a book about “THE WALK through the eyes of Walker” when it is finished) thought it would be a great thing to have a Dry Bones donation. Jeff was presented with our own dry bones with a little covering on him. Thanks to all of my relatives that have been so supportive in this mission!
The weekend brought much needed rest and relaxation for Jeff and Walker. Walker has been doing quite well. He feasted on ham, chicken, hot dogs, and a little dessert over the last few days. It was a great time for both of them. Sunday morning Jeff and Walker started back to Denver. His travel is a little different. He will be doing some of his walk around the Denver area because he has a Dry Bones board meeting on Tuesday night. After that he will start walking toward the point where he left off when I picked him up, Trinidad, Co. Please continue to remember them both in your prayers. Some of the next few days will be the hardest. Thanks for your support, Sherri Robinson Jeff’s other half
